Monsters

Monsters meeting

The sky looked funny on the mountain today. Even it was 9 in the morning, the sky was orange at the horizon. We were lucky to find no tracks courses and the weather helped us- almost no wind. It was smelling like spring, even the spring bugs came out. In a month or two spring snowboarding is coming up next.

Today National Foundation Day is celebrated in Japan. The holiday was established in 1966 as a day to reflect on the establishment of the nation.

Happy New Year!

Mr. Hiroyuki, the owner of Eyes Cafe and Little Juice Bar from Sapporo was so kind to show us Rusutu and show us where the real powder is hidding. We visited his shop situated inside Sapporo's station in Paseo. I had the best fresh juice ever.
It`s been a busy end of 2008 and beginning of 2009.
December was the events month for me and the end of the year and beginning of 2009 was dedicated to snowboard and family. Around New Years Eve I went to Hokkaido and snowboarded at Rusutu, Kiroro, Teine and Asari.
The video below was made on the top of Rusutu in the near forest where powder is everywhere.
Let's continue learning how to snowboard. How to stop and curve are one of the most important "must know" for me. Enjoy!

Burton Supermodel `72

For almost 3 years I`ve been using the board that made me love powder and Hakkoda. Lately I`ve been checking the internet for THE powder snowboards and looked at several boards like: T. Rice Banana Hammock , Burton Supermodel, Burton Fish , Gentem and a few others. I was about to buy the Banana Hammock to enjoy the powder 100%- but then I thought what will I do on the slopes.

Yesterday, the weather in Aomori changed and today was really cold. It won` t be long until the snow will be here. :) Where will you snowboard this year?

Good Morning April Powder!

Clear sky in the city and warm, -5.2 C at top station of the gondola- perfect for skiing. But it is April, April the 13th and yesterday it was snowing on the top of the mountain. There are a few cm of new snow on the top... and on the street too. I changed my tires last weekend and I am driving carefuly up the hill.

IMG_2589

Met my friends and started to go uphill at 9:15. Beutiful weather, almost no wind.

Warm up before a long hike

IMG_2598

We are passing through a valley and on the left side we can see the beginning of an avalanche.

IMG_2613

Is this a rainbow? There was a round circle around the sun that seems to be a rainbow? What is it called?

Just before a 10 minutes brake

Skiers and hikers coming from different directions( Sukayu and Akakura) to enjoy the back side of the mountain.

IMG_2653

Me and Mos san decided to test the powder on the left side of the mountain. The mountain that we are going to climb next is the one you can see in the photo.

IMG_2645

And there is Mos San starting his 1 minute fun ride.

IMG_2642

Finally at the top. It is cold and my wet T- shirt is giving me shivers. But something amazing is about to come.

IMG_2673

We are served Hot Corn Soup on top of the Oodake. Delicious and starting to warm up! Thank you Mos San! Amazing treat!

IMG_2680

Going around the crater and prepare for the long ride.

IMG_2689

They are ready to go, I am still taking photos. Can` t stop.

IMG_2697

This is what us and other 2o skiers did on the back of Oodake. It felt like winter.

IMG_2726

Yotin San is sliding and posing. Nothing stops her to have fun.

IMG_2719

Sizu San is enjoying this day in silence. Her suit and clothing are so good for taking pictures on this weather.

IMG_2729

Mos San didn` t stop taping all the way down. I am looking forward to see his video.

IMG_2757

She had the camera with her all the time. Smiling and enjoying spring snowboarding.

IMG_2760

We came from the top of that mountain and still have to go down for a few minutes before we arrive at the car.

IMG_2753

Stopped for a while to take this video

IMG_2732

Next goal is in the photo below.

IMG_2741

Didn` t take care of my face before going up, and now my face is all red.

Thanks to Mos San, 20 minutes of that day are on video. You can see it down here:

Have a nice week.

Today` s weather conditions

Temperature on top: -8.6 ℃
Temperature at the bottom: 0 ℃
Wind speed: 2 m/s
Visibility: 2km
Ammount of snow: 345 cm
New powder: 1 cm

Great weather, almost no wind, not that cold, all the east side of the mountain to ourselfs. One of my friends mailed me this morning at 7 to tell me that I should get up because the weather is good. And it was. Thank you for waking me up. Got on the first gondola, and went straight to the east side.

This is the video I took at 9 a.m.

After work escape

Temperature on top: -11.6 ℃
Temperature at the bottom: -6 ℃
Wind speed: 13 m/s
Visibility: 30m
Ammount of snow: 310 cm
New powder: 30 cm

After work, i went uphill and had the chance to get on the gondola once. I won` t be able to go to Hakkoda this weekend, and I needed to see and ride the new 150 cm of new powder. It was amazing. The powder was so deep but so soft. Could get out of deep powder if stucked easily.
I met my new friends and my Yamahai friends just before I went home.

Health vs. Snowboarding

Here I am coughing my lungs out, sweating like it was summer with a running nose and on my way to -10 degrees to meet my friends on the top of the mountain.

IMG_0020

Met a few of my friends downhill and waited for about 30 minutes for everybody to come down the mountain. When gathered we headed for the top.

IMG_0029

At the top there were -10, strong wind, visibility 30 for less than 30 metres and heavy snowing. We took the Forest Course, that opened yesterday. There is a trail on the course as wide as a snowboarding board and no chance of getting out of it, the snow is too deep.

IMG_0036

On our way down Mr. Mosurya filmed us going downhill by holding the camera in his hand. That is quite a challenge considering the weather conditions at Hakkoda. No worries for him- water proof camera and a good balance. Nice work! He also caught me dancing while snowboarding. Watch this:

We went uphill for two more times and this time, because the falling snow made it harder too go on the Forest Course, we took the Direct Corse and of course, enjoyed the powder around it. This is how the the gondola was looking like today on top the mountain.

IMG_0041

Downhill, the snow storm was so strong when we got there at 15:30- so dark, seemed to be 18:00.

IMG_0045

At 16:00 I remembered that my cold is still fighting with me and decided to go to pay a visit to a local Onsen. It has been a while since I didn` t visited an Onsen and it was so relaxing.

IMG_0053

At the moment it is 12:00 am, I am writing the blog, wiping my nose every 3 minutes and still coughing. Tommorow I` ll be as good as new. Or not !

Over and out!
