Iwaki on April 19th 2009

Iwaki on April

The weather was GREAT!
Left the city at 7 a.m. and parked the cars at the bottom of the Yayoi course at 9:30. After all the gear and accesories were prepared we left towards the bus stop (15 minutes walk). The bus schedule was different from the one we knew; 1 hour and a half to wait for the 11 o`clock bus ?!?
The lady that owns the shop located near the bus stop, was so kind to tell us that a taxi can pick us up and take us to Iwaki Skyline for the same price, and so we did. The 50 minutes hike, up to 1500m was hard enough, but it was worthwhile. The clear sky gave us the chance to see the 360 degrees panaorama over the Tohoku area.
There were 3 degrees on top but because the wind was almost absent it felt warmer. After we had lunch( some of us had HOT noodles- prepared guys), we packed and prepared for the long ride. It was hard to leave the beautiful view from that altitude( an airplane was flying under).
The long ride on the Yayoi Course slope was more than we were aspecting and went down slowly enjoying every bit of it.
The traverse we had to take down the mountain put our legs to work, but we had to do that in order to avoid falling into the river that goes underneath the snow on the valley. Compared to other years, the snow melted faster- we took a 15 minutes walk throw the forest to arrive at the cars.
To finish the day properly, Dake Onsen was the next stop for a hot spring.

Pana atunci " Yes, we can!"

Snow Monsters

Healthy colors

This morning I was prepared to go up the mountain, but... Yesterday evening after meeting with some of my friends downtown, I checked my temperature and for my surprise I was having 38 degrees. Nothing to worry about. Ate some Lamen and went to bed. In the morning the fever was 38.3 and I decided to pay the doctor a visit since I won`t be going up the mountain. They pushed this long and thin stick through my nose.
I was diagnosed with Influenza A and I was asked to choose between Tamiflu and normal antiviral medicine. I will be staying in the house, in the same room for a few days; i have a few days just for myself.
So, wash your hands, gargle when coming home and wear a mask if needed. The photo was taken last week on Hakkoda during the 2 hours of clear sky.
I wish I can do this someday- Watch on Youtube!

Happy New Year!

Mr. Hiroyuki, the owner of Eyes Cafe and Little Juice Bar from Sapporo was so kind to show us Rusutu and show us where the real powder is hidding. We visited his shop situated inside Sapporo's station in Paseo. I had the best fresh juice ever.
It`s been a busy end of 2008 and beginning of 2009.
December was the events month for me and the end of the year and beginning of 2009 was dedicated to snowboard and family. Around New Years Eve I went to Hokkaido and snowboarded at Rusutu, Kiroro, Teine and Asari.
The video below was made on the top of Rusutu in the near forest where powder is everywhere.
Let's continue learning how to snowboard. How to stop and curve are one of the most important "must know" for me. Enjoy!

Sun on slope

Burton Supermodel `72

For almost 3 years I`ve been using the board that made me love powder and Hakkoda. Lately I`ve been checking the internet for THE powder snowboards and looked at several boards like: T. Rice Banana Hammock , Burton Supermodel, Burton Fish , Gentem and a few others. I was about to buy the Banana Hammock to enjoy the powder 100%- but then I thought what will I do on the slopes.

Yesterday, the weather in Aomori changed and today was really cold. It won` t be long until the snow will be here. :) Where will you snowboard this year?

07-08 Snowboarding season opened

Yeap! 07/08 snowboard season started and yesterday I met my friends after a long break. I woke up at 7 and at 8:45 we were on the first gondola to go uphill. At first we were only 5 but after 2 runs, 10 members of our group gathered.

The snow was a little hard because it didn` t snow recently but it was so much fun. I missed my snowboard buddies and the snow. I had to wait for one year but it worth the effort.

This happened yesterday:

Thank you モスSan for the clips!
This morning it started to snow and after I wake up, at 12:00 o` clock I went to Hakkouda again. There were about 10cm of new snow at the bottom of the hill and on the slopes there were about 30 cm. It was great! can` t explain the pleasure of hearing the sound of powder under my board: SSSSssssssssSSSSSSSSsssssssss
